MOD-PODGED RIVER ROCKS

My son Maxwell and I went to the river by my dads house and gathered rocks together. It reminded me of being a little girl and walking through the river at our family cabin. It is freezing and slippery but invigorating. After gathering as many as we could carry we brought them home, cleaned them and then I painted the top with white, added fourth of July images and mod-podged to seal. I love the way they turned out.

Maxwell found this perfect heart rock in the river and gave it to me. I didn't want to just put it away with the rest of the heart rocks I have collected. I mod-podged flower images covering the rock. It is beautiful - I think :) And it sits on my kitchen window sill as a daily reminder of how much I love my son.

I adore the glass plates I see at boutiques that have been glued to a base to make a cake stand. I have been on the lookout for the perfect dish. Instead I found vintage light covers that were irrisistable. I glued them together and walla - the perfect cake dish, cookie platter or muffin holder.

I was so excited to take a class with Sally Jean Alexander at Art and Soul Las Vegas this past February. I finally finished my Tiara. I think it is beautiful and I loved making it. But I have to say meeting Sally Jean was like being a child in a candy store. I felt excited and nervous. She is delightful and I will check meeting her off of my bucket list. :)

I have a collection of rocks that I have found in the shape of hearts. My neice Annie found this rock in her backyard and she knew I would love to have it. It was so large and perfect shaped that when my husband and I were building our cottage we cemented the heart in the rock foundation at the entrance door. A continual reminder of our love for one another. I have since painted the heart red!

We hired someone to make the firepit for us in our backyard outside of the cottage doors. It has been a great way to bring our family together. We know have what we call "Smore Sundays" where we have an open invitation to family and friends to join us in making smores, laughing and sharing our thoughts.

I am so blessed to have the amazing men in my life that I do. My two sons and my husband have allowed my dream to come true. I wanted to have a cobblestone walkway but it was cost prohibitive. My husband knew he could make the stones by hand out of cement which would be labor intensive but cost effective. My three favorite men - handmaking the cement cobblestones for our walkway. This photo was taken last summer. The boys wanted to wait until the heat of the day went away. Here they are working at night under bright lights mixing cement, tinting it with dyes and making molds of cobblestone. After they dried they would lay them rock by rock to form the walkway. It is beautiful and so are they!

My husband and I found the windows for our cottage at a yard sale for $5.00 each. We loved them and actually built the cottage around these four windows. When it was finally time to attach the windows we realized that no matter what we used the windows were not coming clean. So I decided to make my own stained glass windows using glass marbles. I loved the idea because the sun shines through and really lights up the room and yet no one can tell that underneath the windows there is a dirty film that covers the glass. PERFECT!

I also love the desk! It was originally someones dining room table. They cut the legs off, added large wheels and made it their coffee table. I then found it at a second hand store. It was just what I was looking for in a desk minus some legs! So I found legs on ebay and my husband attached them to the table. I love it!!

A perfect find in Grandpas Barn. This cupboard needed some serious cleaning but I loved the paint that is here and there. The color was perfect and I knew I would be able to put it to good use. The small desk it sits on was handmade by my uncle Richard. I painted it and stenciled the pattern on top.

I had to have this red velvet chair. I only wished I had been to the second hand store a day earlier. There were two, but someone had already purchased the other one. I love the second hand granny square quilts I have found. They remind me of when I was a young girl and my grandmother taught me how to crochet the squares.

I was more than thrilled when I discovered that Stephanie Lee, author of Semiprecious Salvage was coming to Utah and teaching a one day "cuff" class at the Lehi Art Center. She is an excellent teacher and I recommend if you ever get a chance to take a class from her you do so. Her talent is incredible. Lunch was delicious with handmade bean salsa, chicken croissants, snickerdoodle cookies, spicy brownies and more. Best of all were the new friendships that developed. It was a perfect day!

This chair was in Grandpa Middleton's barn. I recovered it with some extra fabric using some of grandpa's old upholstery tacks. There is a funny story with the gorgeous pillow. I went shopping with my sister Pattie for her bedroom furniture when I saw this pillow. I instantly loved it! I showed it to her....she bought it! Which was fine because it was expensive and I didn't really need it. But I told her that day and about five times there after that when she dies, she has to leave me the pillow. It somewhat became a joke. Christmas morning, Pattie gives me a present. I opened it and there was a pillow for me. I started to cry. I couldn't believe that she bought me one too and held it for months waiting to give it to me. I love this pillow and I think of my sweet sister Pattie every day I walk into the cottage. Thanks sis! xo

OLD FENCE CHANDELIER WITH INSULATORS

My husband asked me what I would like for my birthday and I said "your time" to which he replied "o.k. I will give you ten hours!" I was so excited to get some unfinished projects completed. This chandelier was one of them. I have been hanging on to this fence piece for about five years with the intentions of some day finding the insulators and another day getting it made. I absolutely love it! We put it outside hanging from a willow tree. It is amazing at night with candles flickering. Thanks honey!

This antique lamp was originally an oil lamp and given to me by my grandfather. I have had it in a box for 15 years. I finally cleaned it and hung it in a corner behind my desk.

I found this vintage cabinet at my favorite store in St. George, Utah. It was white and dirty. I painted it and added wooden dowels on the inside to hang my ribbon. I then attached the metal flower for a handle. I love it! It hangs on the wall in the "love shack."

ONCE UPON A CHARM

I asked my very talented friend Shireen from "ONCE UPON A CHARM" if she would teach a class on how to make her soldered glass charms.

She shared with us her secrets on how to solder the perfect charm. She gave us great ideas on where to get images and how to make them look their best with a list to take home reminding us all we learned and where is the best place to purchase supplies.

Shireen also gave each of us a darling gift bag with images, baubles, a vintage button and more. But the best part of all....she hand made each of us a charm to keep! This is the necklace she made for me it says "CREATE." I love it!!!!

These are two of the three necklaces I made, my daughter is wearing the third. Thanks Shireen for all your help - I needed it!

And of course, dessert is a must! We nibbled on handmade cherry chip miniature cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and sipped on an array of hot cocoa with mini marshmellows and/or tea. We had a delightful time!

Last but not least....my cottage that I have dreamed of for many years has finally become a reality. It is finished and this is where we had our class. It was warm and cozy, Frank Sinatra and others were softly singing in the background, candles were glowing, new friendships were bonding, talents were developing and all was perfect!

STAINED GLASS WINDOW

"Patience is a true virtue." I was in need of just one more window for the cottage. I didn't want to settle for just any window and we have another stained glass window on the opposite side of this one. My husband and I searched for about six months to find the perfect window. Just as the husband was becoming frustrated and loosing his patience he decided to look on KSL.com and there was our window. Close to home and for only $45.00. It is perfect!
